Elfie in the front door handle

Our first year of Elfie

It didn’t take me long to get sucked into the Elf on the Shelf idea, seeing all the posts on social media. I thought it might be a bit of fun for Charley really and get us into the Christmas spirit. I haven’t put much thought into her goings on or whereabouts yet, we seem to be making it up each night before we go to bed and fortunately haven’t forgotten to move her yet!

Elfie in the front door handle

She first made an appearance in our house on Sunday morning, through the front door handle. Charleys face was a picture as we were explaining that she had come from the North Pole, that Charley wasn’t allowed to touch her but she could talk to her. Charley asked lots of questions such as ‘But how did she get in?’. We did feel a little bad telling her all this and how Elfie just must fly in in the morning!

We read the book together so Charley could get an idea of what she was about and then gave the elf the rather imaginative name of Elfie.

At the moment Elfie has just been popping up on high up places and hasn’t been up to too much mischief, but I’m hoping to get a bit of inspiration for the rest of her stay!

Here’s where Elfie’s  been so far:

Hopefully at the weekend we’ll be able to come up with some good ideas of what Elfie can get up to as there are only so many high up places in the house we can keep putting her!

  1. We love our little elf, there is so much fun you can have. I love to make ours play with the children’s toys and the kids find that really amusing. Take a look on the #LetElvesBeElves pinterest board for some inspiration.
I look forward to seeing the fun Elfie has this Dec.

  2. Love it, I look forward to seeing what Elfie gets up to next.
I don’t think me and the hubby will ever grow up, we laugh way too much setting our elf up at night! 🙂 x

  3. It’s always around week 2 i.e now, that I start to run out of ideas. Probably going too creative in the first week it can sometimes be difficult to keep up the momentum!
Sometimes our elf is also just “chilling” – usually when I’ve forgotten to move him the night before!!
Thanks so much for linking up to #letElvesBeElves. I hope you can make it again next week
