RHS Wisley Gardens – Christmas Lights Switch On

It was the Christmas lights switch on at RHS Wisley Gardens on Wednesday this week. It just so happened that I’d gone there with my parents again for the day. We didn’t realise until we got there and saw the ‘Jigantics’ scattered around the gardens! Mary Berry was switching them on at 5pm so we decided we’d wait and see the magical lights illuminated in the dark.

Even in daylight the flowers were amazing, so tall and vibrant. I do love going to Wisley to see what is happening in the gardens!

We had our usual walk around the gardens with some lunch and then Charley had a little play in the soft play area as Bodhi was having a snooze.

We went back to the car for a warm up (the gardens shut for half an hour) and then came back out to watch Mary Berry switch on the lights. The gardens then re-opened and we walked in to see the ‘Jigantics’ lit up. I’m so glad we stayed to see them as they really are amazing to see. The paths are so pretty with the fairy lights and trees are lit up along the way too.

My photos don’t really do the flowers justice, they need to be seen really to get the full affect.

The gardens were open to 6pm but we just had a quick look as I still needed to get the children home for their dinner.

On the way back through the shop though, a few tables were laid out with some of the goodies they sell to taste. Everything tasted so good. I ended up buying some grape chutney and rostaberry jam. We also tried some chocolates which were very yum and my mum couldn’t resist buying a box of them.

As we came out of the shop, there was another table of mulled wine, orange juice and mince pies. We all had a mince pie as we left and didn’t really need any dinner after all the nibbling!

The Christmas lights are on until 3rd January with the gardens shutting at 5pm. They really are beautiful and worth a visit if you are close by.
